resulted not only in the University closing down of course as far as we are concerned, but in the internment of virtually all the University authorities. We have had several discussions of planning needs for the University on the liberation of Hong Kong; and at a meeting recorded (No.9.). it Is was decided to recommend that a small Advisory Committee should now be appointed to make plans in the necessary detail for the resuscitation of the University with due regard to priorities in its various faculties.
Mr. Cox has now seen our plan and while agreeing with the project of a committee small in numbers, as proposed, advocates the inclusion of Dr. Kauntze and Professor Channon in the expectation that Dr. Fehily and Mr. Rowell of the Hong Kong Planning Unit, will sooner or later go off to the Far East. His minute above also refers to the possible interest of the Asquith Commission, which in fact we had already considered and had been advised by the acting Secretary that this was a matter which could not usefully be brought to the Commission's notice.
I am very ready to sound Professor Channon wi if he would agree to serve; my own view would be that he would be a useful member. Subject to his being invited to join the Committee if he will be willing to do so and to the inclusion of Dr. Kauntze I certainly agree would strengthen the Committee, may we have approval for the institution of this Advisory Committee as part of the planning arrangements for Hong Kong?
